As the Georgia State community is reeling from the tragic death of a student on December 5, 2022, near Piedmont Central Dining Hall, it's important for us to remember that our safety is paramount. With this in mind, the Atlanta Police Department is currently investigating the shooting at 120 Piedmont Avenue NE, which is located across the street from the dining hall.
To help keep you and your peers safe, here are a few safety tips we recommend:
1. Always be aware of your surroundings and any potential dangers or risks when you’re walking alone or with others. If you see something suspicious, trust your gut and take action accordingly.
2. If you are going to be out late at night, try to walk with a friend or a group of people whenever possible. It's always better to stay safe together than risk being alone.
3. Avoid using shortcuts through unknown areas if possible. Stick to well-lit and populated areas when walking around campus late at night or during early hours in the morning.
4. Familiarize yourself with Georgia State’s Blue Light system - an emergency response system where blue lights are placed around campus for quick access in times of need and security threats.
5. Keep emergency numbers on hand: 911 and emergency police phone numbers for your local jurisdiction as well as campus security department numbers for Georgia State University are available through LiveSafe app and on emergency call boxes across campus (3 locations on Piedmont Avenue).
By taking these precautions into account and remembering to stay vigilant, we can work together as a community to keep our GSU family safe from harm at all times!
